Hiking to the White Rim Overlook in Canyonlands

World-renowned for its bird’s eye views of sweeping canyons, Canyonlands National Park is home to some of the most stunning views in Moab. The White Rim Overlook boasts 300-degree views of the surrounding landscape, including a top-down glance of the famous White Rim Road. An easy hike brings you right to the edge of the canyon.

Where is the White Rim Overlook?

Situated inside the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park, this must-see view is right along the main drag. Head past the visitor’s center and continue along Grand View Point Road.

Continue along the road until you reach the pullout for the parking lot on the east side of the road. If you miss it don’t fret, there is a cul-de-sac shortly after so you can turn around.

Practical Information About the White Rim Overlook

When it comes to hiking in Canyonlands, the White Rim Overlook is about as simple as it gets. More than just a viewpoint, this mellow hike takes you out into a thin mesa that delivers incredible scenery in virtually every direction.

Make your way along the well-marked path until you reach the terminus, a rocky outcropping that features an incredible view of the sweeping canyon systems below.

There are no railings or platforms at this viewpoint, so be sure to watch for loose rock and the canyon’s edge. As you make your way around the viewpoint, you’ll see the weird and wonderful White Rim Road, a 4x4 route that skirts the edge of the white-rimmed canyons.

Take your time snapping all the photos, until you’re ready to come back the way you came.
